Uploading your first work

File formats, size limits, and what happens after you add media.

Head to Account → Work and start a new work item. You'll see a two-step builder. Step one is a single question — What have you been working on? — with a dropzone that takes a drag-and-drop or a click to browse. Step two is where you build the page itself.

What you can add

The dropzone accepts both images and video:

  • Images up to 10 MB
  • Video — MP4, MOV, or WebM, up to 4 GB and 30 minutes

You can mix both later. Step one just gets the first piece of media in so you have something to build around.

What happens with video

  1. The file is checked for format, size, and duration.
  2. Only MP4 files larger than 200 MB get compressed in your browser first, so they upload faster — you'll see a brief Compressing video… note. MOV and WebM upload as-is.
  3. The file uploads with a progress bar, then Cloudflare Stream processes it for playback.
  4. A thumbnail is generated automatically from the video.

Right after upload you might see that the video is still processing — the player and thumbnail appear within a minute or two.

After you add media

You move to the block builder, where you add details and stack content blocks into a full work page. See The work editor explained and Building a work page with blocks.

New work starts as a draft, so nothing is public until you hit Publish. There's no checkbox to find — see Saving work as a draft.
