NYC hates AI

This week:

$1M OOH backlash, Meta’s EMG glasses update, and your weekly FOOH recap.

👀 NYC hates AI

Late this past summer, AI-companion startup Friend spent about $1M to blanket the NYC subway with 10,000+ stark white posters. New Yorkers answered fast: graffiti, takedowns, and plenty of anti-AI commentary.

Anthropic took the opposite path: With its Claude Café pop-up in New York, visitors opted in: grab a coffee, ask questions, try Claude with a staffer at your side. People tested at their own pace, discussed privacy and control, and left with tangible use cases.

Takeaway: Don’t broadcast at people, invite them. Trade raw reach for earned rapport, and hype for hands-on utility.

🕶️ You’re wrong about META’s glasses

Meta’s AI glasses hit the week’s headlines again, now with wristband EMG gesture control getting hands-on coverage.

The feature promises steadier POV capture, and on-the-move “save/compare/add-to-cart” actions — making it especially promising for retail, live events, and creator partnerships.
